>> live from the abc 7 broadcast center, this is abc seven news at 11:00 on your side. we startedhs near 50 the new year on a warm note. the weather is about to change in a big way. the low freezing temperatures and possible snow are heading our way. meteorologist steve rudin is with us right now. >> we hear about the potential for a snow total to move in tomorrow night and into early friday. i don't think it will amount to a whole lot in the bc metro area. bigger problems will definitely be had. take a look at the temperatures outside. at 11:00 we are at 40 degrees at ration -- reagan national.

outside it is dry right now with no problems tonight, no problems with tomorrow's rush-hour commute. an area of low pressure will develop just off of the coast. that will become a classic nor'easter, dumping a lot of snow across new york city and into boston. we have no advisories and no warnings, i think the biggest problem is the bone chilling cold that will arrive on friday. weing up tomorrow morning, will see temperatures in the lower 30s. this is coming up in just a few moments. >> a mother is in custody tonight accused of leaving her young daughter alone in a car outside of a casino. for eight hours. alycia brown faces several charges including second-degree child abuse. tom rogers is following this story for us and he joins us and hanover. what do you know? >> police and neighbors and

parents, everyone we talked to cannot believe it. this 24-year-old mother was accused of doing this at the casino behind me on the fourth level of the parking garage. this is something even police are calling absolutely stupid. >> of course the child was scared. >> the police used to sing terrible things say that this is in a class by itself. 24-year-old alycia brown allegedly not only left her child alone for eight and a half hours, she also put sheets over the window to make sure that no one saw the four-year-old. it is not clear if she ever checked on the little girl the whole time. care less if they had the whole car set up like a day care center, the child should not be left alone by itself. >> brown lives in baltimore. no one answered the door at one address linked to brown, and in this neighborhood on the west

side where she lived most recently, the woman at her listed address said that she did not know her. but neighbors had plenty to say about leaving a four-year-old in a car, when the temperatures barely hit 40. >> especially in this kind of weather, for eight hours, the child could have caught pneumonia. >> the child is sitting in a car, the child cannot even go to the bathroom or eat or do nothing. >> as a parent, he says he knows not to leave a four-year-old alone for eight seconds, let alone eight hours. >> she is in trouble and she has to answer for this. the law and the forces above. >> as for the four-year-old little girl who was in the car thankfully, she is ok and social services is involved. the child is staying with relatives. charges facing three

including second-degree child abuse. county, abc arundel 7 news. >> unbelievable. in loudoun county, 14 people were taken to the hospital for exposure to carmen monoxide. this happened on the 22,000 block of high haven terrace. asked emily left the car running in the garage. their conditions are not known at this hour. happening now in montgomery county. are looking for the accused in a bizarre attack. takoma park police say that a suspect broke into the home by moving an air-conditioning unit. he assaulted two people including a woman who was pregnant -- seven months pregnant. we have been following this throughout the evening and are in the newsroom. a pregnantattacked

woman and a man inside an apartment unit and then fled, and this is what police say precipitated this crime. wednesdaysay afternoon a female suspect went into the back of the apartment building in takoma park, pushing over the air-conditioning unit to get in to the home through the window. investigators said that she had a woman who was seven months pregnant in the stomach with a tiki torch. >> i don't know. >> police say a man in another room came to the woman's defense and was stabbed with an unknown sharp object. the female victim is not seriously hurt, but the man was seriously injured. the suspect fled to a waiting taxi. this woman who lives next door and said she saw the police arrive at the scene. especially hearing that the suspect is a woman. >> this is a weird one.

this time this is a woman. >> a lot of unanswered questions in this story. takoma park police will not say if the female suspect lives in the building and the plan to -- they decline to the spot -- to provide a description but they say they have long leads in this case. in this case.s >> developing story tonight, bc police are looking for two people accused of stabbing five people. the assault happened in and out time of a nightclub called the district. the police ordered the club to be closed for 96 hours. a fight broke out inside around 3:30 this morning. if you have any information, contact d.c. police. --oach truck driver who was is now charged with second- degree murder.

>> you are watching abc seven news at 11:00, on your side. >> developing news out of minneapolis, where number of people are injured in an apartment fire, the number has risen to 14. this happened just after midnight this morning and in just minutes, the building was engulfed in flames. victims show that the were either pushed from the explosion or jumped to escape. firefighters braved freezing temperatures to fight the fire and we will have more on freezing temperatures in a moment. some sad news from hollywood tonight. james avery has passed away. he was best known for playing uncle phil on " the fresh prince of bel air. " he died from complications from open-heart surgery. people love to binge watch television but is there a bright side? about half of the people watch the most television while

roads are covered in white. poor visibility made it hard to get around even on foot. in minneapolis firefighters struggled in freezing temperatures to put out a massive blaze in an apartment complex as the water quickly turned to ice. under the conditions that we had today with these freezing conditions -- >> more than one dozen people were injured, some in critical condition. advisory's were issued from the midwest to the northeast. >> a winter wonderland for the winter classic. >> in ann arbor, michigan, thousands of fans came for the winter classic with the rain and snow a perfect backdrop for the game. blizzard conditions are expected in philly, all the way up the east coast. in burlington, vermont, residents are emptying store -- storm shelves expecting a foot of snow.

elementary school it is 38 degrees. no rain to speak of but that will change as you move through the late afternoon hours, eventually changing over to light snow. manassas 28, southern maryland and lessons in park at 25, the cold air is located to the north of us. we are looking at an area of low temperatures off to the west that will transfer off of the coast. this is going to become the nor'easter that we have heard about. this is going to bring a ton of snow to new york city and boston. this is not quite as big of a deal. winter storm watches and warnings well to the northeast of new york city, long island and that area shaded in red), this is a blizzard warning for tomorrow with upwards of 10 to 12 inches of snow, combined with when just of 45-50 miles per hour. it is not looking pretty up there. no advisers -- advisories or

warnings. i think that you will see just a little bit around here and we could see a winter weather advisory issued for parts of the area come tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. the best chance is north and aberdeen, andnear less chances the father west that you go. the in-house computer model gives us more on what to expect, around 2:00 we could see a flurry and then it will change in terrain. depending on how quickly this changes over to rain or snow, that will affect how much of we see around here. 1:30, we see some snow and it creeps out of here and then we -- and then comes that really cold air. how much snow will we see, converting to rain with the snow melting. maybe a half inch in the district. half with higher
